Abstract |
The paper describes the ISC-COMPDEP model and compares it with its predecessor, the COMPDEP model. COMPDEP was developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to fulfill the need for a model to estimate concentrations and dry and wet deposition for receptors at all terrain heights for use in indirect exposure assessments. It was developed by combining the methodologies in the Industrial Source Complex (ISC) and COMPLEX I models with algorithms for modeling dry and wet deposition. A recent review of COMPDEP by the U.S. EPA identified several algorithms in the model as potential areas for improvement. The ISC-COMPDEP model was developed to address these weaknesses. Improvements were made in the following algorithms: dry deposition of particles, building wake effects, deposition in complex terrain, and modeling of area sources. A brief discussion of the major algorithms and a description of the sensitivity of concentration and deposition estimates to changes in the model algorithms are presented in the paper. |
