"The toxicity of ammonia to bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus) was determined in 30-day exposure of embryos, larvae, and juveniles. A 96-hour acute test was also conducted using 30-day-old bluegills. Survival of newly hatched larval fish and growth as measured by weight were the most sensitive indicators of toxicity. The highest concentration with no observed effect was 0.063 mg/liter NH3 and the lowest concentration causing an effect was 0.136 mg/liter NH3. The 96-hour LC50 was 0.94 mg/liter NH3, ten times greater than the chronic value."--Abstract. |
