Abstract
Research was conducted to develop a general test protocol to identify the possible deterioration of water quality as a result of leaching of toxicants from distribution/transmission pipes and tanks during distribution and storage of potable water. The developed protocol was tested with a representative coating material normally used for corrosion inhibition of standard steel pipes and tanks and is known to contain a large number of compounds, some of which are suspected to be carcinogenic. The leaching apparatus of the test protocol is expected to be applicable in predicting possible toxicant leaching from other coated and uncoated materials that come in contact with potable water.
