Abstract
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC) Technology Testing and Evaluation Program (TTEP) helps to protect human health and the environment by carrying out performance tests on homeland security technologies. Under TTEP, the persistence of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 virus on test coupons prepared from chicken feces, galvanized metal, glass, and soil was investigated. The performance of liquid technologies to decontaminate the H5N1 virus from test coupons of galvanized metal and soil was also investigated at room and low temperatures.
