Abstract
Hazard evaluation studies have shown that shore based Naval water supplies can be contaminated by chemical, biological, and radiological warfare agents. The greatest hazards to be guarded against appear to be radioactive fallout in surface waters and covert introduction of pathogenic vegetative bacteria or botulinum toxin into a water distribution system. Laboratory and engineering studies were conducted to determine the design criteria and cost estimates of providing and operating devices to protect against these contaminants. (Author)
