Abstract
Pyridine was identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Assay by the above methods as well as gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector indicated that the material was greater than 99.9% pure throughout the duration of the study. Stability tests on aqueous solutions of pyridine in teflon sealed, amber glass bottles indicated the test material was stable and the concentration was unchanged over a period of up to 4 weeks. A specific objective of the study was to develop data on the neurological effects of pyridine over the period of exposure. No significant histopathological or clinical findings related to the neurological systems were found that could be definitely attributed to exposure to pyridine.
