| Abstract |
In consideration of the requirements of the Section 169A of the Clean Air Act of 1977, the objectives of the IMPROVE program are--to establish the background visibility levels necessary to assess impacts of potential new sources, to determine the sources and levels of reasonably attributable visibility impairment, to collect data useful for assessing progress toward the national visibility goal, and to promote the development of improved visibility monitoring technology and the collection of comparable visibility data. In order to meet these objectives two distinct monitoring activities were developed and initiated. The report summarizes the progress made to date in developing and implementing the IMPROVE monitoring network. Section II addresses the background monitoring network and Section III reviews the impairment attribution monitoring efforts. |
