Abstract
The intention of this chapter is to review briefly the recent history of the regulatory actions affecting the wastewater outfalls in Boston Harbor, with emphasis on the role of models for particulate behavior, in particular, sedimentation. This review of the Boston Harbor situation serves to illustrate where the state-of-the-science is in the application and use of modeling tools for addressing environmental problems in aquatic systems.
