Abstract | Electrokinetics promises to be an innovative treatment process for in-situ treatment of soils and groundwater contaminated with heavy metals and radionuclides. Electrokinetics refers to the movement of ionic liquids and charged particles relative to one another under the action of an applied direct current electric field. The paper summarizes the results of laboratory tests for the removal of uranium, thorium, and radium, conducted from February 28, 1991 to March 30, 1991 and a review of progress to date. |
