Abstract | A study of the lower Genesse River in Monroe County, New York was conducted to investigate the impact of pollution sources, both point and non-point, on the water quality of the Genesee River. It was determined that four major point-source discharges have a significant effect on the dissolved oxygen levels present in the River: (1) Oatka Creek, (2) Gates-Chili-Ogden Sewage Treatment Plant, (3) N.Y.S. Barge Canal, and (4) Kodak Wastewater Treatment Plant. Three other factors of a non-point source nature affect the dissolved oxygen levels in the River: (1) Non-point source contributions from agricultural, forested, and pasture lands in the upstream regions, (2) benthic demand in the lower region in the vicinity of the mouth, and (3) horizontal dispersion effects in the lower region. |
