Abstract
The authors have developed a biological multichannel analyzer which, using a sensor that operates on the Coulter Principle, measures and distributes mixed cell populations by cell size. It provides an analog distribution and digital printed readout for future analysis. Although primarily a pulse height analyzer, it operates as a pulse shape analyzer if the instant at which each pulse height is read is varied. This technique, applied to the peripheral whole blood from freshly sacrificed Fundulus heteroclitus shows the alterations with time and the variations caused by trace amounts of cadmium and copper in the aquatic environment. The size frequency distribution patterns of each trace element environment differ from each other, and each, markedly from the norm.
