Abstract
Two test methods for mercury are described along with the laboratory and field studies done in developing and validating them. One method describes how to homogenize and analyze large quantities of sewage sludge. The other test method describes how to measure the mercury emissions from the stacks of sewage sludge incinerators. In this latter method, the samples are collected in a potassium permanganate/sulfuric acid solution and analyzed for mercury using flameless atomic absorption.
