Abstract |
The report describes the results of a task supporting EPA in its efforts to license hazardous waste incinerators. The study provided a design for a simplified sampling system for medium levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Most of the study involved evaluation of sorbents and mixed-sorbent sampling tubes to develop a rugged, compact VOC collection system. The report describes the evaluation of sorbent materials, the development of a sampling tube, and the laboratory evaluation of the sampling system with several VOCs. The simplified sampling system consists of a single tandem-bed sorbent tube containing Tenax GC and Spherocarb sorbents. Direct thermal desorption into a GC/FID or GC/MS provides a rugged and simple sampling and analysis system. |
