Abstract
The report is a summary of some of the work performed by Cornell University in which modifications to an aerobic digester permitted the digester to comply with PSRP requirements in cold climates. The modifications included addition of an insulated cover to prevent escape of the heat of oxidation to the atmosphere and installation of better aeration equipment to improve oxygen mass transfer from the air. When this modified digester was operated in parallel with a conventional digester, reductions in indicators and viruses were significantly greater than in the conventional digester.
