Abstract |
This report presents exhaust emissions data gathered on in-use vehicles equipped with three-way catalyst systems. The test vehicles were 1979 and 1980 passenger cars of various makes and models. Each of the 116 vehicles tested was certified to California standards. The purpose of the program was to gather information on current systems in customer use for projections on the ability of the three-way system to meet emission standards of the future. The results indicated that vehicles equipped with these systems are capable of achieving low exhaust emission levels although high levels do occur due to defects, deterioration or tampering with the emission control equipment. |
