The industrial waste research program of the Public Health Service is being carried out mainly under the provisions of Public Law 845, officially cited as the 'Water Pollution Control Act' and enacted into law June 30, 1948. The purpose of this paper to give you the highlights of this law as it applies to studies of industrial wastes, the financial provisions for carrying out the responsibilities, and the broad phases of the program now being carried out by the Public Health Service through its grants programs and through the Environmental Health Center at Cincinnati, Ohio.
