Abstract
This report presents national and regional trends in air quality from 1975 through 1982 for total suspended particulate, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and lead. Both national and regional trends in each of the major pollutants are examined and, where appropriate, specific Statewide air quality trends. Air quality trends are also presented for both the National Air Monitoring Sites (NAMS) and other site categories. In addition to ambient air quality, trends are also presented for annual nationwide emissions. These emissions are estimated using the best available engineering calculations; the ambient levels presented are averages of direct measurements. This report also includes a section, Air Quality Levels in Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas (SMSA's). Its purpose is to provide interested members of the air pollution control community, the private sector and the general public with greatly simplified air pollution information. Air quality statistics are presented for each of the pollutants for all SMSA's with populations exceeding 500,000 for the years 1980, 1981 and 1982.
