Abstract
Performance of the Manning model S-4000 wastewater sampler and the model F-3000 flowmeter was investigated. The S-4000 wastewater sampler was tested at temperatures of 2, 20, and 35C to determine accuracy and precision of the timer and sample volumes. The multiplexer function of delivering multiple aliquots per bottle was tested. Tests for ability to fill up to four bottles with the same sample were made. Battery endurance was determined. Discrete sample temperatures versus time were recorded under iced conditions to determine preservation capability. Field tests were performed to determine representative collection of suspended solids and ability of the unattended sampler to collect raw sewage samples over a 24-hour period. The F-3000 flowmeter was tested within the laboratory for accuracy and precision of tracking, analog to digital conversion, deadband, and electronic drift caused by temperature change and battery decay. Accuracy of the flow chart and integrator was determined. Manufacturer's claims were mostly confirmed, however improvement is warranted for some functions of the sampler and flowmeter.
