Abstract |
Continuous-wave microwave and pulsed radio-frequency (ground-penetrating radar) methods were developed and assessed for nondestructive monitoring of sub-surface environmental problems concerning hazardous material impoundments. The primary objective of the project was to conduct a technological assessment of these systems for identifying dike failure characteristics (seepage, soil stratigraphic discontinuity, voids, grouting breakthrough). These technologies were also evaluated for the detection of related subsurface objects such as waste drums. |
