Abstract |
The report describes phase 2 of a 4-phase demonstration program involving the dual alkali process for controlling SO2 emissions from Unit 6, a coal-fired boiler at Louisville Gas and Electric Co.'s Cane Run Station. The program consists of four phases: (1) preliminary design and cost estimation; (2) engineering design, construction, and mechanical testing; (3) startup and performance testing; and (4) 1-year operation and test programs. The report describes final engineering design, construction and mechanical testing, and installed system capital cost. Construction of the system was completed in February 1979 and system startup was initiated in March 1979. Total capital investment for the entire plant, including waste disposal, is estimated to be $20.4 million (construction of the waste disposal facilities is not complete). |
