Abstract |
The Data Base Analyzer and Parameter Estimator (DBAPE) is an interactive computer program that provides a link between two of EPA's development products -- an environmental model and a data base. DBAPE was created to encourage and support the use of the RUSTIC model, a newly developed model that simulates the transport of field-applied pesticides in the crop root zone, the unsaturated zone, and the saturated zone. DBAPE provides an efficient means to obtain soils and meteorologic data needed to run RUSTIC from a data base that contains information on over 8000 agricultural soils and 200 meteorological stations located throughout the contiguous United States. Soils-related RUSTIC input that can be obtained by using DBAPE includes percent organic matter, wilting point, field capacity, residual water content, saturated hydraulic conductivity and values for the van Genuchten parameters for the soil-water characteristic function. Meteorologic data that can be obtained include precipitation, air temperature, pan evaporation, solar radiation, and windspeed. These meteorologic data are not distributed with DBAPE because of their volume. DBAPE, however, allows the user to identify weather stations near his/her study sites. Meteorologic data for these stations then can be obtained from the EPA's Environmental Research Laboratory, Athens GA. |
