Abstract
The report gives results of an analysis of atmospheric emissions from propylene-based acrylonitrile manufacturing plants. Uncontrolled and controlled emission factors are given for each species emitted to the atmosphere from each source within a typical plant, based on field sampling data and engineering estimates. Emissions data are used to calculate several factors designed to quantify the hazard potential of the emissions. A detailed process description and flow sheet are presented for the SOHIO process. Present and future aspects of pollution control technology in the industry are discussed. Economic and production trends in the acrylonitrile industry and in each of the industries that are consumers of acrylonitrile are analyzed.
