Abstract
A very large data base of ambient non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC), measured in Atlanta during summer 1990, is now available. The data base includes hourly measured ambient concentrations of C2 - C10 species at six surface sites during July and August. Chemical Mass Balance (CMB) receptor modeling is used to determine the individual contributions of several source categories to measured total NMHC at one of the central city sites (Georgia Institute of Technology). A novel feature of the modeling is the use of source profiles derived from the ambient data itself through the use of GRACE (Graphical Ratio Analysis for Composition Estimates) and SAFER (Source Apportionment by Factors with Explicit Restriction) methodologies. For the purpose of emissions inventory validation the CMB results are compared to the 1990 summertime Atlanta emissions inventory prepared by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
