"This is an interim report for the first four months of the hazardous waste studies being performed at the Environmental Monitoring Systems Laboratory- Las Vegas. The majority of this initial phase of the study was spent in collecting samples and establishing the laboratory analytical operation. Eleven manufacturing and waste disposal sites were visited and 26 different wastes were sampled. Although limited analytical data is available for this report, some tentative observations are presented and should be useful in preparing the guidelines and regulations for hazardous waste. The initial data .indicate that the pond sampler gives reproducible results when used in accordance with the proposed regulations. Data obtained also indicate that the proposed extraction procedure is reproducible and should be acceptable for identification of hazardous waste. Some problems were encountered with the analytical procedures for barium and mercury. These problems are being investigated and will be discussed in more detail in the final report. The results and conclusions in this report are interim findings and are subject to change as more information and data are collected in this study."--P. 1.
