The reports included in the three-part volume describe eight studies by various investigators, to better understand the physics and chemistry of two-phase combustion with respect to pollution formation. Volume IIb gives information on the influence of various combustion parameters (i.e., fuel type, stoichiometry, residence time, temperature, and mixing) on the fate of volatile fuel nitrogen, in four parts: (1) method for characterization of coal during thermal decomposition (United Technologies Research Center); (2) the volatility of fuel nitrogen species (Rockwell); (3) stirred reactor study of pollutant formation from combusting pulverized coal clouds (Acurex); and, (4) pollutant formation from combustion of fuel oils in a well mixed combustor (Battelle). |
