Abstract

Historically, water pollution control has been associated with the protection of public health, and now there is a definite trend in the direction of considering the effects of pollution on all water uses. Certain policies have been defined in the Water Pollution Control Act of 1948, others are implied, and others have been developed by the Public Health Service as required for program operation. Major policies in connection with the national water pollution control program are discussed. (Author)
