| Abstract |
This chapter introduces the subject of environmental microbiology. The topics covered include the origin in 1677 of water microbiology. Interactions between microorganisms and both other categories of microorganisms, as well as microbial interactions with macroorganisms are addressed. Discussion is given regarding the metabolic activities of microorganisms within the environment. |
