Abstract
The object of the study was to determine the feasibility of mass culturing Gonyaulax catenella outdoors, in an enriched sea water medium, utilizing natural sunlight, and controlling temperature and initial pH. The marine dinoflagellate, Gonyaulax catenella, has been definitely shown to be a source of a toxin, that when concentrated in shellfish during feeding, can subsequently cause paralytic shellfish poisoning when ingested by humans. Thus its laboratory growth is important as a source of supply.
