Abstract
The document describes the use of power analyses in designing 301(h) bioaccumulation monitoring programs and provides evaluations of alternative sampling strategies. These methods can be used to evaluate alternative designs on the basis of the level of sampling effort required to obtain described levels of precision. For example, existing data can be analyzed to determine the minimum differences in contaminant concentrations that can be detected for selected levels of sample replication. The probability of detecting specific levels of differences in tissue contaminant concentrations for alternative sampling designs can also be determined.
