| Abstract |
This document presents the findings of a study of the soap and detergent manufacturing industry for the purpose of developing effluent limitations guidelines. Federal standards of performance, and pretreatment standards for the industry. The development of data and recommendations in the document relate to the nineteen subcategories into which the industry was divided on the basis of raw waste loads and appropriate control and treatment technology. Separate effluent limitations are proposed for each subcategory on the basis of raw waste load control and end-of-pipe treatment achievable by suggested model systems. Supportive data and rationales for development of the proposed effluent limitations guidelines and standards of performance are contained in this report. Potential approaches for achieving the limitations levels and their associated costs are discussed. |
