Abstract
The first objective of the project was the development of a methodology by which predictions could be made of the water quality released from relatively shallow but stratified Texas impoundments. For five different non-Texas reservoirs for which field velocity data were available in the literature, the Bohan-Grace model was satisfactory in predicting the thickness of the withdrawal zone and the magnitude of the velocity profile. The methodology was evaluated by comparison of predicted and observed water quality for the releases from Lake Livingston under various reservoir operating conditions. The second objective was to determine which water quality characteristics were of significant importance to warrent a reservoir operating program based on selective withdrawal. Nitrogen was found to be the limiting nutrient.
