Abstract
The report summarizes the third year's effort under EPA Contract 68-02-3127. The objective of the program is to conduct a field evaluation of the distributed mixing burner (DMB) on an industrial size boiler. The DMB concept provides for controlled mixing of coal with combustion air to minimize NOx emissions, while maintaining an overall oxidizing environment in the furnace to minimize slagging and corrosion. Major accomplishments in 1981 included completion of baseline host boiler tests, completion of prototype DMB tests in a burner test facility, and installation of the DMBs in the host boiler.
