Abstract |
Biomass materials such as waste wood, crop residues, and begasse are widely available at low cost. The use of biomass to generate power is a cost effective way to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and the use of non-renewable resources. The study is a comparative evaluation of a range of biomass power generation systems. The objective was to identify systems most suitable for the unique properties of biomass. The characteristics of biomass fuels were reviewed and the performance of several gas-turbine-based cycles was evaluated using a thermodynamic model. Capital and operating costs for each system were estimated. |
