Abstract | The report summarizes the findings of a technology evaluation of municipal sludge composting as demonstrated at five facilities: three with aerated static piles, a windrow, and an aerated windrow. Although all of the sites generally processed sludge reliably and effectively, the purpose is to present key problem areas and their resolutions. Site and operating features, sludge loadings, compost characteristics, capital and operation and maintenance (O&M) costs, compost revenues, and procedures to minimize odors are presented. |
