Abstract | This inventory shows that most of the country's abandoned gasworks sites is poorly investigated. Those few studied reveals heavy soil pollution of PAH, cyanides, mercury, cadmium and lead. These gasworks sites are very often centrally located, often near water, on attractive building sites. In a few cases the ground is already built-up with apartment buildings, hospitals or office buildings, without any prior study of the pollution situation. In other cases planning is under way for new buildings. The aim of this report is to focus the attention and to spread knowledge about these problems, to those working with environmental issues and physical planning on local and regional levels, as well as to those energy utilities which once run the gasworks |
