Abstract |
The document presents a critical review of the available literature on the biological effects of radiofrequency (RF) radiation. The objective was to summarize and evaluate the existing database for use in developing RF-radiation exposure guidance for the general public. The frequency range of concern in this document is 0.5 MHz to 100 GHz, which includes nearly all the significant sources of population exposure to RF radiation, except 60-Hz electrical power systems. Research reports that are judged to be credible according to a set of objective criteria are examined for the relation between the RF energy absorbed and the presence or absence of biological effects. The reported consequences of the interaction between RF radiation and biological systems are examined from two perspectives: whole-body-averaged specific absorption rate (SAR) and RF-energy-induced core-temperature increases. |
