Abstract
The paper discusses control of air pollution from fossil fuel combustion. Until recently, this meant abatement of smoke (particulate), sulfur dioxide, and oxides of nitrogen. With growing concern about global climate change, carbon dioxide has been added to the list. The paper includes discussions of such controls and control systems as wet and dry scrubbers, fabric filters, electrostatic precipitators, physical coal cleaning, flue gas desulfurization, selective catalytic reduction, limestone injection multistage burners, reburning, E-SOx and ADVACATE.
