Abstract
One dimensional hot water displacement experiments have shown 15 to 30 percent increases in the recovery of viscous oils after the injection of 10 pore volumes of water by increasing the temperature from 10 deg C to 50 deg C. Greater recoveries may be possible with continued hot water injection. The efficiency of the displacement in terms of oil recovery versus pore volumes of water injected is dependent on the oil properties and the grain size distribution of the sand.
