Abstract
The report discusses results of tests on a lime kiln, a precalciner cement kiln, and a conventional wet process cement kiln. Where applicable, the effectiveness of excess air variations on pollutant emissions is quantified and compared to previous results. Combustion modifications were not implemented on the precalciner cement kiln. A subscale cement kiln simulator was designed, fabricated, and operated to determine the effect of burner operating variables on near-flame NOx production. The effects of combustion air preheat, carrier air dilution, and fuel injection velocity were the primary variables assessed for both natural gas and coal.
