Abstract
The paper's purpose is to describe the current pollution prevention research program assigned to the Risk Reduction Engineering Laboratory which incorporated multi-media direction in providing practical solutions to the complex problems of waste management. The pollution prevention research program follows the six fundamental goals identified in the Pollution Prevention Research Plan: Report to Congress. The six research goal areas are: products, processes, recycling and reuse, socio-economics and institutions, anticipatory; and technology transfer. Municipal solid waste research is described for the source reduction and recycling projects planned and currently in progress.
