Abstract
This chapter focuses on physical organism-sediment relations that are of potential value in predicting the physical properties of sediments and the transport fates of fine-grained sediments and their associated contaminants. Generalizations are made about how early and late successional stages influence the physical properties of sediments-- some of the cause-and-effect relationships are well known, while others remain speculative. A few promising techniques and approaches for future work are discussed.
