Abstract
This guidance is designed to assist State and Tribal professionals responsible for assessing the health risks associated with exposure to chemical contaminants in noncommercial fish and shellfish. In addition to providing methods, the document offers specific information on 24 potential fish contaminants. Toxicological data and tables which list fish consumption limits based on the concentration of contaminants are included in the document. A major goal of this document is to provide an understandable and scientifically defensible method for the development of fish consumption advisories that can be used in a consistent manner across the country. This manual provides guidance only and does not constitute a regulatory requirement for the States.
