Abstract
On March 18, 1971, EPA sent a notice to Allied Chemical Corporation to cancel the registration of products containing Mirex. The firm requested that the matter be referred to an advisory committee as is its right under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). The committee was chosen by the EPA Administrator from a list of names furnished by the National Academy of Sciences. The report is divided into two primary sections. The first covers advantages and disadvantages associated with the use of Mirex for the control of the imported fire ant and other insects as well as possible present and future alternative means of control. The second section deals primarily with possible hazards associated with Mirex uses.
