Abstract
This report presents the results of a project designed to evaluate the relationship between the total cost of water pollution control and the date of compliance with the water quality goals specified in the 1972 Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments. The project included two case studies. The first examined the potential to reduce total waste treatment costs by implementing a regional waste treatment system in the Meramec River Basin in Missouri. The second examined the changes in initial capital investment and life cycle waste treatment costs, as a function of time in the Grand Calumet River and Indiana Harbor Ship Canal in Indiana.
