Abstract
Little is currently known about the response of rice plants to UV-B radiation, enriched CO2, or elevated temperature. Even less is known about the responses of important rice ecosystem components (pests, pathogens, weeds, nitrogen fixation, methanogenesis) to these factors. To accurately determine the qualitative and quantitative nature of these effects will require a number of highly integrated experimental and modeling efforts, rigorous data quality control, and effective coordination of research activities between cooperating groups. To facilitate integration of research activities, the program takes a modified cascading approach with each task building upon the results of other tasks. The research tasks for the program fall into three groups: climate scoping, experimental, and assessment.
