Abstract |
Fourier transform infrared absorption spectroscopy and differential optical absorption spectroscopy have been used to determine the yields of glyoxal and methylglyoxal from the reaction of hydroxyl radicals with toluene, m-xylene and p-xylene. The yields of glyoxal for the three hydrocarbons ranged from 10 to 20%. The yields of methylglyoxal ranged from 10 to 26%. These yields are too low to be explained by any currently available mechanism of aromatic hydrocarbon oxidation. |
