Abstract |
The report describes a new technique for measurement of sewage volume flow utilizing ultrasonic measurements of depth and velocity. The new technique, requiring no costly construction for installation, is usable for open channel or partially full measurements. The flow technique can accomplish measurement accuracies from 2 to 5% under conditions of rapidly changing levels, surcharging, and back-up conditions. Two installations were accomplished on existing sewers in the Milwaukee Sewage System, one 12 1/2 feet and the other 5 feet in diameter. A continuous flow record was displayed for each meter and performance of the meter installations was compared with magnetic flow meters at one site and head velocity relations on the other site. |
