Grantee Research Project Results
The Exploratory Environmental Research Centers program provides long-term, stable funding to support research on emerging environmental problems or complex issues which require coordinated interdisciplinary approaches. Secondary objectives of this program include support for students in environmental research fields, encouragement of talented researchers to devote themselves to environmental objectives, and improved interaction among the public, private, and academic sectors in planning and conducting environmental research.
This competitive program is limited to universities or consortiums of universities within the United States and is operated under a grant with an average of $1.0 million per center per year for up to ten years. The last competition was held in 1992. Four centers were awarded in that competition from among 87 applicants. There are no new competitions planned.
