Research Category: Chemical Safety for Sustainability
Objective:
The primary purpose of this project is to develop the Nortis microphysiometer system populated with rodent and human liver cells as in vitro test systems that can be used to evaluate uptake, metabolism and elimination of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) in the context of an adverse outcomes pathway (AOP) model. The cellular component of the system is rodent or human liver cells isolated and integrated into an in vitro 3-dimensional (3D) system that can be used to predict pharmacokinetic disposition of xenobiotics. We will also work closely with our colleagues (Drs. Faustman, Kelly and Altemeier) on this proposal, who developed their own in vitro organotypic culture systems (i.e., testis, kidney and lung).
