To greatly reduce cellulose/lignin waste output by using fungi and attempt to identify fungal strains producing hydrocarbons of interest in biofuel production.


The two objectives of this pilot study go hand in hand. First, we will setup a scale-sized paper composting facility then isolate fungi carrying out the composting to assay hydrocarbon output. The above design will serve as a model of sustainability and research for the people of the community. It is our hope that this model can be adapted worldwide.

Expected Results:

Non-recycled waste paper output will be greatly reduced campus wide. We are hoping to isolate fungi capable of producing hydrocarbons that can be utilized in biofuel production.
